Around 1952 I got a job in the CBS mailroom at 485 Madison. In those days it was more of a career launching platform than I guess it is today. I recall the mailroom manager, Joe Sharpe, well. A very decent guy.
From there to Network Operations with managers Art Peck, Harry Glazier and Marty Dickstein. Then I worked as a director for WCBS radio - Galen Drake, Music 'Til Dawn, John Henry Faulk, Lanny Ross, et.al. Got the ax in '55 from Lyman Clardy, the WCBS program manager. I can't remember why, but it was a great job for a young man. I also recall Kim Gregory who worked down at Vanderbilt.
My father, an obstetrician, had Mrs. Lou Tedesco as a patient. And, via Lou's contacts, I got a job as director of the Smith, Kline & French Medical Color TV unit -- still using cameras with the field-sequential spinning color wheel that SK&F got from Goldmark. I had this job for about three years. I was traveling about 300 days a year and I burned out. I created a memorial review about the TV unit on my website. You might enjoy it.
